We can’t promise that the stars will indeed align when The Prettiest Star takes her chance in the Jersey Stakes on Saturday, but there are auspicious enough signs behind her appearance here.

First of all, the event is run at the specialist distance of seven furlongs and is often won by a three-year-old who has previously competed at Group 1 level over a mile – just as The Prettiest Star did on her most recent start, when fourth in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket. Additionally, it’s a race in which Wathnan Racing has been successful before: that great favourite Haatem won it in 2024, before famously returning to Royal Ascot last year to ‘double up’ in the Wolferton Stakes.

A final coincidence comes in how the filly came to join the Wathnan team: she is trained by Ed Walker and was previously owned by David Ward, the trainer-owner combination from which we sourced another Royal Ascot winner, English Oak.

You could say, of course, that the combination of all these factors is not a cast-iron guarantee of success in today’s race. However, whatever happens today, she already has Group-race form and is a hugely promising prospect for the rest of the season.
