Sandal’s Song ran a very good third in the G2 Norfolk Stakes here last year, before returning to America. George Weaver brings him here in preference to the deeper waters of the G1 Commonwealth Cup.
Zelaina also ran at Royal Ascot last year, when she was hotly fancied to excel in the G2 Queen Mary. She didn’t. Rather, she boiled over and raced too keenly. Getting her to calm down enough to put her best foot forward has been many months work from Karl Burke’s yard and the wider Wathnan team.
